SAFE PASSAGE / SAFE BLOCKS

“LET’S MAKE TRAVEL TO AND FROM SCHOOL SAFE”

NAARC alongside Mayor Bowser’s Office has partnered with school leadership around the D.C. area. Safe Passage / Safe Blocks workers identify locations in and around school zones where additional support staff can assist with keeping students and families safe as they travel to and from school.

Safe Passage / Safe Blocks programming includes conflict resolution, mediation services, and community relationship building to keep students safe and improve student attendance.

Workers serve as additional eyes and ears to keep students in the community safe.

How does Safe Passage

Safe Blocks work?

Safe Passage / Safe Blocks workers - trained and trusted adults - will be assigned to schools and build relationships with school staff, students, families, and community members.

Safe Passage / Safe Blocks workers are stationed strategically throughout Minnesota Avenue and Anacosia Corridor.

Testimonials

“I would like to express the level of peace that I feel when I arrive at work before 8am and they are there and when leaving everyday. I have witnessed these gentleman assist our students in wheelchairs into the building daily, helping staff out when they are bringing in heavy or an abundance of items in, and most of all building relationships with our students encouraging them to come to school and make better choices for themselves. As a professional school counselor, I know the power of relationship building and the positive effect that the Village approach has on our children. The safe passage staff is now a part of the Anacostia village/community and again I want them to know that efforts and support does not go unnoticed. So KUDOS to Antione Johnson, Tyrone Carter, Donald Wooten and Luther Fuller.”

- Chermine Trotman, School Counselor, Anacostia Senior High School
